TIME TO TRAVEL ACROSS
The ride to Lombok is usually around 5 hours depending on the weather. Occasionally the ferry harbour is full, so you may have to wait 1-2 hours for the ferries parked to leave before docking.
HANDY TIPS TO CATCH A FERRY
The ferries travel to and from Lombok 24 hours a day, so if you want to catch a ferry and avoid the crowds, very early morning ferries or very late evening ferries are recommended.
SEA SICKNESS TABLETS
If you suffer from sea sickness like I do (it’s a curse right!), I recommend to go to the local Apotek to buy Seasick Tablets, they are cheap and around Rp. 20-30.000 ($2-$3).
They are 100% effective, but strong, so don’t take the whole tablet, split one in half and take half 15 minutes before boarding, and save the other half for the trip back. This way the drowsy effects wear off much quicker whilst still providing an effective cure for seasickness.
WHAT TO BRING
Ferries offer a mattress to sleep for Rp. 50.000 ($5) but if you are fast to get on board first, usually you can find some seats to stretch out on. If you want to bring your own blanket, that is recommended to sleep on especially at night, it can get a little chilly on board if you are travelling around midnight or early morning.
Make sure you bring a supply of water and snacks. You can buy snacks on board, they are slightly more expensive then normal supermarket prices e.g. a pack of chips is Rp. 20.000 ($2) so better to bring your own supplies.
If there is a guitar player playing before the ferry leaves, free free to give him a Rp. 2000 tip when the come around to be courteous.
